July 30: Hotel room blocks expire

If you book a room after July 30, you might not be eligible for the convention rate, and might not be blocked with other Aussiecon 4 members.

July 31: Hugo Awards ballot deadline

The Hugo Awards ballot and packet deadline is 31 July 2010 23:59 PDT (Sunday, August 1, 2010 02:59 EDT, 06:59 UTC/GMT, 16:59 AEST).

August 9: New site selection mail-in ballot deadline

August 9 is now the deadline for us to receive mail-in ballots for the site selection of the 2012 Worldcon. They previously were due 31 July. You can also vote at the convention or ask someone to hand-carry your ballot to the convention.

NIGHTMARE BALL ADDED TO AUSSIECON 4 EVENTS

The Australian Horror Writers Association is sponsoring a Nightmare Ball in conjunction with Aussiecon 4. The Dance is being held on Friday, 3rd September from 9 p.m. until Midnight in the Banquet Hall of the MCEC. Horrific details are here.

HUGO VOTER PACKET EXPANDS!

Aussiecon 4 has expanded the 2010 Hugo Voter Packet, which is an electronic collection of novels, novellas, novelettes, short stories, graphic stories, art, writing samples, and excerpts made available to voters by Hugo and Campbell nominees and their publishers.

This expansion adds:

  • Girl Genius Volume 9: Agatha Heterodyne and the Heirs of the Storm
  • Art by Sue Mason
  • Links by Frederik Pohl
  • Additional file formats in the novel, novella, novelette, short story and related works categories. See the updated list below for details.

The Hugo Voter Packet is available until the Hugo final voting deadline of 31 July 2010 23:59 PDT.

2012 WORLDCON SITE SELECTION BALLOT AVAILABLE

The site selection ballot for the 2012 Worldcon is now available on the web site. You may cast your ballot by mail or in person at Aussiecon 4. The deadline for receipt of mail-in ballots is July 31, 2010. Members who pay the fee and vote will automatically become supporting members of the 2012 Worldcon.

FAN TABLE BOOKINGS NOW AVAILABLE

Fan tables will be located in the vicinity of the Dealers Room and Art Show and are available to fan clubs, conventions, convention bids, and similar groups.  There is no charge for these tables (except for extra ancillary services such as power, telephone, or WiFi needed to run EFTPOS terminals).  To reserve your space, email fantables@aussiecon4.org.au.

NOTE:  The sale of goods and services of a commercial nature at the tables will not be permitted.  However sale of memberships and related materials is permitted.

Aussiecon 4 reserves the right to deem what constitutes a fan organisation.

HUGO PACKET RELEASED

Aussiecon 4 has released an electronic 2010 Hugo Voter Packet containing works and samples from 2010 Hugo Award and John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer nominees. The packet is available for download by Aussiecon 4 members. Download information will be sent out to members beginning this week.

The works in the Hugo Voter Packet are made available to voters through the efforts of the nominees and their publishers. Aussiecon 4 is grateful for their participation and willingness to share with its members. Remember to vote, and please support these creators! Their work is available in bookstores and online.
